Velo! – Cycling the Nice France area

The famous Steven Segal, the restauranteur

Once we decided we were headed to the south of France for a year, I knew I had to cycle. It seems that as guys approach 50, for some reason, cycling becomes a must-do sport for a lot of us. We watch the Tour du France, spend lots of money on fancy equipment, collect data with Strava & bike computers, and really take on this sport. It’s often said – if it isn’t on Strava, it didn’t happen, and so this is how we share our achievements, and get motivated to get out there and push harder.

The area around Nice is perfect for cycling; the weather provides for year-round riding opportunities, and there’s a great variety of rides to do in every direction (except south – one needs to sail there).  There’s one inescapable feature of all these rides however: hills, so if you’re heading to the region to do some cycling, come prepared to climb. Of course getting to the top of these hills is very rewarding, providing spectacular vistas and sweet, well-earned descents.

A special thanks to the king of Cote D’Azure riding, and the best tour guide around: Steven Segal – he’s responsible for almost all the rides I’ve done in the region, and has been my frequent comrade.

I’ve outlined a few of my favourite rides below, and if you want to see all I’ve done, find me on Strava.   – Tim
