Auron is a beautiful ski resort that offers tons of terrain for all levels of skiing. It is relatively close to Nice and beside Isola 2000. Whereas Isola was built in the 70’s, Auron has a much older and quaint vibe. The town circles around a skating rink and is filled with cozy restaurants and old hotels, (old being the operative word).
Because Auron has such great ski resort “bones” i.e. easy access to the lifts, multiple ways to get up the mountain, quaint old school vibe, I don’t think the hotels in the area have had to work very hard to secure customers. If you are looking for Chamonix sheik or St. Mortz glam, you are in the wrong spot. Auron is all about skiing and eating…(not very bad past-times if you ask me!)

Ok, I jest a little, they added balconies at some point.

Las Donnas is the definition of cheap and cheerful, we stayed in a room with 3 beds, a tiny TV and red carpet (circa 1960). The sheets were soft and clean, pillows plentiful and breakfast was fantastic*! Las Donnas is a must for all people wanting to remember the ski vacations from their youth.

We also stayed at Le Chalet d’Auron

Our co-Canadian friend Pierre was kind enough to book our suppers for the weekend (for 15 people!). The first night we had our own private covered patio, furnished with faux fur and candlelight at Le White. The foie gras burger is to die for.

Delicious meal while kids played outside
The second night we enjoyed a meal at Le Galion. The atmosphere was cozy and the truffle fondue is a must.
