Wood Restaurant
Fancy, not filling
Wood restaurant is a perfect mix of cozy and fine dining. But, I think, had we looked at the menu before we went in, we would have opted for another restaurant. Even while considering that it is a restaurant in a resort town in peak season, the prices were hard to take. I think real foodies would have loved Wood Restaurant though, it reminded me of Hasai near our chalet in Ontario, Canada. The food is presented with panache and flair, but there is very little of it and, well, I guess my palette is not fancy enough to enjoy the rich textures and tastes. The boys ordered reindeer for an ungodly sum of money and, judging by the smallest bite I was offered, it was delicious. I was only offered a small bite because we were all so hungry, we weren’t in a sharing mood. Truth be told, we settled our bill and went to another restaurant for more food and dessert.
Ymeletrob
Despite its unpronounceable name, Ymeletrob is quite good. Good portions, great service, and a variety of offerings. The atmosphere is that perfect mix of cozy chalet with a splash of Friday night fun. A word to the wise though, stick to the traditional fare, above is the risotto which was not tasty.
Ristorante La Bricole
Ristorante La Bricole was an easy walk from La Cresta Chalet, you just have to walk across the “piste” to get to it. A little fancier than Ymeletrob, La Bricole has heart. A great mixture of local specialties and traditional Alps dining. We could have eaten here every night.
Hotel Baita Cretaz
Great pit stop for lunch – big patio and more seating inside, Baita Cretaz offers more traditional italian food and no nonsense service. Arrive early if you want a spot outside, we had to eat inside which was a bit of a relief from the hot sun!
Hotel Schwarzsee
I’d take a pass on a lunch at Hotel Schwarzsee. The view is incredible, and the patio expansive, the service pretty good and the food about average but the incredibly loud dance tunes didn’t suit our vibe.
Gitz-Gädi
Sheep-skin seats, hot sun, cheesy potato creations – what’s not to love about Gitz-Gädi! Although a bit fancy for lunch, it was worth the extra $$ to sit in the hot sun on the patio and enjoy a delicious, slightly fancy lunch.
