Monaco cycling

Cafe du Cycliste is a boutique premium cycling clothing shop in Nice. In addition to selling excellent clothing here, they also rent out high end bikes, and organize weekly rides. On Saturdays they lead their no-man-left behind rides, where the group pauses periodically, for example at the top of a climb, to wait for the group to coalesce.  On Sundays their rides are more intense, and if you can’t keep up then you’re on your own. Their rides start at their shop in the Port du Nice.

In late January, on a Saturday, I joined about 40 people heading east out of downtown Nice.  We rode out about 25 kms east along the coast on a sunny, clear, spectacular day, passing through Monaco and Monte Carlo.  Shortly after passing through Monaco we turned north, and climbed up into the hills, to a max elevation of about 500m. We then stopped for a brief rest, and then coasted back down to our starting point. All told this took about 2 hours.  For an easier, less climbing option, simply turn around at any point and re-trace your route back to Nice.

This has to be one of my favourite rides here in the Cote D’Azur, and I’ve been taking all our guests out on this one.
